Important information about space and pre-registration:

Alas, conference participation is limited by the space requirements of our four rooms. Our largest room can only accommodate 125 people; the smallest holds 35. Therefore, you must pre-register for each session you want to attend. Please note that registration for each session will close once the maximum allowed in the room have signed up. You may not always be able to attend your first choice. Register early! You can change your session choice later online if there is still room.

• 8:30-9:45am — Opening for conference at Community Church of Boston Lothrop Auditorium (note: limited to first 120 registrants).

Overview of the day and the outcomes we're hoping for; introductions with True Story Theater (which honors true stories of communities through improvisational theatre, movement, and music)

• 9:00-9:45am — Main Conference Registration

10-11:15am

Track 1: Performing Arts. Performance and hands-on workshop with Project Think Different (which entertains change by using the music, film and video media as an entry point into civic dialogue and action) with Cara Lisa Powers, media education organizer.

Track 2: Group Dialogues. Facilitated discussion: What is your vision for this field?

Track 3: Field building workshop. "Mapping the Field of Art for Social Healing.” Exploring how we describe this field, assess its impact, and help it flourish. Resource people include:
o Judith Thompson, founder of Children of War and with Cambodian Living Arts, social healing researcher
o Doris Sommer, director of the Cultural Agents Initiative at Harvard
o Natalie Vinski, representing the Institute of Art and Civic Engagement

Track 4: Visual Arts. Presentation and hands-on workshop with Medicine Wheel’s founding artist Michael Dowling

Track 5: Solo Adventures. Browse videos, websites, brochures and displays on the field of social healing arts.

11:30am-12:45pm

• Track 1: Performing Arts. Performance and hands-on workshop: Urban Essence Dance (using Hip Hop culture and Latin music and dance to empower youth leaders) with Founder Cassandra Clark

• Track 2: Group Dialogues. Facilitated discussion: What is your vision for this field?

• Track 3: Field building workshop. "Partnerships in Social Healing Arts.” Facilitated discussion among art organizations and community groups to name the benefits, challenges, and lessons learned from working together. Resource people include Cathy Rigali Northampton Jail.

• Track 4: Visual Arts. Presentation and hands-on workshop with Boston Youth Fund Mural Crew and artist Heidi Schork

• Track 5: Solo Adventures. Browse videos, websites, brochures and displays on the field of social healing arts.

12:45-1:45pm

BREAK (Join the Gay Pride Parade outside or enjoy lunch in Copley Square)

2:00-3:15pm

• Track 1: Performing Arts. Performance and hands-on workshop with Critical Breakdown (Hip-Hop Spoken Word with youth throughout the Greater Boston area) with founder Erik Wissa

• Track 2: Group Dialogues. Facilitated discussion: What is your vision for this field?

• Track 3: Field building. "Funders as Partners.” Facilitated discussion for current and prospective funders of social healing arts. How do funders engage as respectful and effective partners in this work? Resource people include:
o Pat Maher, Haymarket People's Fund
o Gail Burton, New Freedwoman Project
o Anna Hendricks , Resource Generation

• Track 4: Visual Arts. Presentation and hands-on workshop with quilt-maker and community artist Clara Wainwright, creator of the recent Faith Quilt Project (which has brought together people of faith to express their deeply held beliefs through collaborative quilt making).

• Track 5: Solo Adventures. Browse videos, websites, brochures and displays on the field of social healing arts.

3:30-4:45pm

• Track 1: Performing Arts. Performance and hands-on workshop: Listening Through Music with Guy Mendilow, the founder of the Art in Education Project

• Track 2: Group Dialogues. Facilitated discussion: What is your vision for this field?

• Track 3: Field building workshop. “Building the Field,” How can the field of art for social healing develop greater credibility, visibility and support? Resource people include:
o Dan Hunter, director of the Massachusetts Association for Arts, Science, and Humanities
o Kathleen Bitetti, activist, founder and director of the Artists Foundation

• Track 4: Visual Arts. Presentation and hands-on workshop with Artists for Humanity artist Yhinny Matos and sculptor Nick Rodrigues

• Track 5: Solo Adventures. Browse videos, websites, brochures and displays on the field of social healing arts.
